“Ive been a member of the church since I was 8. I went to church every Sunday, went to all my youth activities, and was very public about my faith with friends. I never seemed to have any questions or doubts. The gospel of Jesus Christ always made sense to me and it always felt right.
My dream since I was young was to be a missionary, so when that time came it felt unreal to me! I served my mission in Finland and it was unlike anything i ever imagined. I quickly realized that my expectations for being a missionary were going to be very different from reality.
I worked with so many members who had questions of faith. Many had concerns, some didn’t know if God existed, and many just wanted to have their faith back. Interacting and learning from these friends opened my eyes to what faith really is. Even when faith is shaken, a core belief in Christ is the most important thing we can strive for.
One of my favorite parts of my mission was meeting people of other faiths. The majority of my new friends in Finland are Muslim. I met with them often and discussed why faith is so important. I was in awe of how devoted they were to their faith. They were good people. They helped others and loved more than most. Their example of devotion and discipleship helped me to strengthen my faith in the simple principles and doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Faith, Repentance, Baptism, and Enduring to the end were suddenly so much more important to me.
Faith is the first principle of the gospel, but can be one of the most complicated. When we build on Christ first, then build upon that, we can have strong unshaken faith and become converted”
