“From a young age I was taught the joys of living the gospel of Jesus Christ. My parents were a great example of faith, service and love. I have never questioned the gospel because the people around me were so strong and courageous that I wanted to be like them and do what they did. But eventually, I needed a conversion of my own.
After high school I attended BYU-Idaho. There I was, basically alone. Nobody knew my background, nobody had any idea what I was like. I was able to mold or change who I wanted to be. What I quickly realized was who I wanted to be was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.
After two semesters I came home for my semester break. I was watching general conference and they announced that the age for sister missionaries to serve was now 19! It took me a minute to realize that I was 19 and could serve a mission. The whole rest of the conference I was in awe and excited because I knew that serving a mission was what I needed to do. I started the process to turn my papers in and it was all done in a week. I put my life in His hands.
My mission taught me to trust in the Lord and that I can do hard things. Nothing about leaving your family, sacrificing school, delaying starting a family was easy. But because I had a testimony of Christ I knew he could help me through any trial I was in. Serving others on my mission taught me the love he not only has for me, but for all of His children.
When a difficult moment comes in my life I always remember Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” We all have to go through hard things, and it’s only through Christ we can conquer it with joy.”
