“I was born into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My family did all the faithful things. Attend church and activities, family home evening, family scripture study and prayers, etc. I felt solid in the church and in my testimony at a very young age. I even got my patriarchal blessing at the age of 13. To say my foundation was solid and firm at such a young age, would be correct.
As life moved forward I wanted to fit in. I made multiple poor choices. I began to fear man and their judgements more than I feared God. That’s where I went wrong. Even as I got older, and was back on track, I still had trials that could have either broken me or strengthened me. I couldn’t have done it alone.
I learned for myself of the grace and mercy of a God who is loving and gave us the gift of his son. He gave us the Atonement so we can feel whole and liberated.
My favorite story of Jesus is when He walks on water and Peter starts to walk on water towards Jesus. He trusted the Lord, he loved the Lord and he was doing it. He was walking on the water. Then he got distracted by the storm around him and his faith started to waver, but Jesus was still there and rescued Peter. I love this story so much because how often do we have faith and trust in Jesus, then the storms all around us distract us and we lose focus on who is right in front of us.
He will rescue us every single time. Jesus rescues me daily and it is so freeing! I had to learn that in a hard way but I’m so glad. I learned that joy doesn’t come from the things in our life, but comes from the focus in our life. I try each day to have my focus on Christ. I know I will still make poor decisions, but I also know that He will rescue me time and time again. I may have had a solid foundation at such a young age and a testimony built from my parents, but I can say now with out a doubt that my testimony is mine and mine alone.”
