“I was not raised in the church and had never heard of the church until the missionaries started coming over.
I don’t remember how old I was when I got baptized, what I do remember is that I was living in west Virginia at the time. I really liked going, the kids were nice, and they actually lived what they were taught.
When I was in high school we moved to Missouri. We went to church but my peers didn’t live the way they were taught, so I quit going to church. Soon after I was doing stuff I wasn’t supposed to do. I was drinking occasionally and I had 2 kids without being married.
When my son was 13 he and his friends took my car out for a joy ride, wrecked it, and I sent him to live with my dad and step mom in Kansas. My daughter would go up to visit and go to church with them. I never took my kids to church.
One day we were driving around and my daughter said she liked church. I was shocked. I called my dad and told him. He then called the missionaries and told them to come over. She started taking lessons and was soon baptized after that. I would take her to church because someone had to, still occasionally drinking and not following the teachings. I slowly stopped drinking and started to go to church for me and her and my life got easier when following the teachings.
Now we have the missionaries over often for dinner we continue to read the scriptures and go to church. I got a quad for my birthday and I have never read the bible before so I started reading it along with the book of Mormon. I couldn’t stop reading it and i’m not a reader I read the whole quad in 4 months.”
